Municipal Leadership Academy (MLA)

The Municipal Leadership Academy (MLA) is a four part series designed to cover the basics of city government in Iowa as well as some of the hottest topics for cities. It is presented in partnership by the Iowa League of Cities, Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University Office of State and Local Government Programs. The 2005-2006 Municipal Leadership Academy concluded with Part Four held in conjunction with the League Annual Conference & Exhibit on Sept. 27-29 in Coralville. At annual conference, specific workshops were designed with MLA participants in mind and will be indicated as such in the conference program. These workshops will focus on leadership skills as well as nuts and bolts issues for cities.

Recognition for Graduates
There were over 120 MLA graduates in attendance at the 2006 conference. During conference, MLA graduates received special recognition at the luncheon. Graduates were praised by Immediate Past President John Mardis for their "commitment to education". The graduates also took a group photo. After conference, MLA Graduates and will receive a special certificate in the mail as well as a press release they can send to their local media.
