$385,000 IN FEDERAL FUNDS SLATED FOR JEFFERSON STREETSCAPE PROJECT
LATHAM SECURES FUNDS IN TRANSPORTATION APPROPRIATION BILL
WASHINGTON, DC – Iowa Congressman Tom Latham announced today that he has secured $385,000 in a transportation funding bill for a streetscape project in Jefferson.
The federal funds will help cover the costs of planning and environmental reports as the City of Jefferson begins the first phase of a streetscape initiative that will include underground wiring for signal controls, sidewalk refacing and general improvements from the back of curbs to building faces in a four-block area around the Greene County Courthouse.
“The streetscape project represents an important investment in the Jefferson community,” Congressman Latham said. “This is going to spark development and benefit the local tax base, and I’m proud to support it.”
Congressman Latham included the funding in a Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill that has received the approval of a House Appropriations subcommittee and will be taken up by the full House Appropriations Committee on Friday. Congressman Latham is the senior Republican on the subcommittee that oversees yearly federal transportation and housing funding legislation.
Congressman Latham’s decision to seek the funding came after significant research of the project and demonstration of strong support within the community. The bill is scheduled for a vote by the full House Appropriations Committee this Friday before it can be considered by the full U.S. House of Representatives.
